Matthias the Apostle († c. 64)
Apostle
After the Ascension, the disciples sought someone who had accompanied Jesus from the baptism of John until the Lord’s Ascension and could become a witness to the Resurrection.
Biography
They prayed, cast lots, and Matthias was chosen to take the place left by Judas. His election shows that apostolic ministry begins with God’s call and is ordered toward faithful witness to Christ. Scripture tells little about his later work, but the Church venerates him among the Twelve as one who received the mission to proclaim the risen Lord.
Practical advice
Without seeking recognition, share a Gospel teaching that can give someone hope, placing the outcome in God’s hands.
