He was born in the diocese of Reims, France and studied as a monk in Fécamp.
Biography
He then left for Italy where he led a hermitical life, later abandoning solitude and becoming abbot of the monastery of Santa María de Florencia. He ended up being archbishop of Rouen and is considered one of the most eminent prelates of his time.
