Mauro and San Placido

Monks

In the community of Subiaco, Italy, gathered around Saint Benedict, these two figures appear as different as they are complementary.

Biography

Mauro was a serious and conscientious monk; Placid happy and impulsive. The two descendants of illustrious Roman families and equal in the generosity of their sacrifice, leave everything to follow Christ. They were the two protagonists of a curious miracle: one day Saint Benedict asked Placido to bring him water and after a while he saw in spirit that the monk was drowning in the lake and then he ordered Mauro to go and save him; This is what he did, obeying so blindly that his faith allowed him to walk on the waters to save his companion.
