June 8

Medardo (+456–545)

Bishop

This saint was very popular in France and peasants invoked him to ask for rain and good weather.

Biography

He was bishop of Noyon, and had conflicts with the intemperate Frankish kings, such as Clotaire I, who, however, had great respect for the bishop. Medardo had a reputation for great charity towards the poor and for his good humor, and funny anecdotes were told about him, such as that of a stolen cow whose shearing did not stop ringing until the thief returned the animal to the saint, or thieves who could not find the exit door until the saint showed it to them, making them understand that sin blinds.

Practical advice

As you collect your heart in silence, prudently fulfill a responsibility that others have entrusted to you and start again with humility if it doesn't go well.
