Melchior Grodziecki (1584–1619)

Polish Jesuit and martyr of Košice, Melchor Grodziecki sealed with his blood a life dedicated to education and priestly ministry.
Biography
He entered the Society of Jesus, studied in Prague and was appreciated as a pedagogue, especially among young people from poor families. Sent as a chaplain to Košice, he cared for soldiers and worshipers in a city divided by political and religious conflicts. Captured along with Marcos Križevčanin and Esteban Pongracz, he endured torture to force him to apostatize. He was murdered on September 7, 1619, invoking the name of Jesus.
