December 18
Modest (+634)
Martyr
This saint became especially worthy of the Catholic Church for having restored the temples of the Holy Places of Jerusalem, after the destruction carried out by the Persians, under King Chosroes.
Biography
This pagan king had thousands of Christians killed, others were sold as slaves and the rest were exiled without mercy. When Emperor Heraclitus of Constantinople defeated Khosrau, he took advantage of Modesto, who was superior of a convent in the Holy Land, to begin the reconstruction of the temples. He started with that of the Holy Sepulcher, then that of Gethsemane, the Cenacle and many more. He asked for help everywhere and little by little he rebuilt each temple, taking care to preserve the ancient form they had before the destruction of the Persians. He was named Patriarch Archbishop of Jerusalem, and he continued the reconstruction with more vigor, until he was murdered for stealing some treasures that he was carrying for the temples.
Practical advice
With simplicity and joy, thank you for the good received through the sacraments and start again with humility if it doesn't work out for you.
