Nazaria Ignacia of Saint Teresa of Jesus (1889–1943)
Missionary religious
He was born in Madrid, Spain, to a large Christian family.
Biography
Very soon she realized that she had a vocation as a nun and entered the Institute of the “Little Sisters of the Helpless Elderly.” She was sent to Oruro, Bolivia, along with other companions to an active missionary life, dedicated to evangelizing especially the poorest and neediest. In 1925, blessed by the nuncio in Bolivia and the hierarchy of that country, Nazaria, in the most absolute poverty, began the founding of a missionary institute: “The Pontifical Crusade.” This work is embodied in two stable forms of life: a religious institute of pontifical right, the “Crossed Missionaries of the Church” and the “Secular Missionaries of the Church”, which later spread to several countries, including: Argentina, Uruguay and Spain. Nazaria died at the age of 54, after a life of total dedication to God and her brothers. She was beatified on September 27, 1992 by John Paul II.
