Nicholas of Chios (+1754)

Priest

A native of Chios, he was a bricklayer by profession and an inveterate drunk.

Biography

One day when he arrived at work quite drunk, his Turkish colleagues convinced him to convert to Islam. However, Nicolás felt remorse for his apostasy, which he drowned in wine, until the day he met a good priest who got him out of alcoholism and helped him return to his religion. When the Turks found out, they took him before a judge, who, upon his refusal to apostatize for the second time, had his head cut off.

Practical advice

As you begin your work, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests, placing the result in God's hands.
