Nicholas Roland (1642–1678)

Priest and canon of Reims, Nicholas Roland received a solid theological training, but chose to approach abandoned children and poor families.
Biography
He preached missions, trained the clergy and founded free schools for girls, entrusting them to the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus. He was also the spiritual director of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and encouraged him to commit to education. He died at the age of thirty-five, leaving instructions to legally secure the work. He considered orphans the living presence of the Christ child.
