Our Lady of Mercy
Blessed Virgin
Practical advice
As soon as you have the opportunity, meditate for a few minutes on a scene from the Gospel in which Mary appears as one who works and prays under the loving gaze of God.
Biography
Patron saint of captive Christians, her festival was originally established as a grateful response to the Virgin for having restored freedom to the Christian captives of the Moors. This was achieved through the alms collected by the members of the newly founded “Order of the Mercedarians”, whose purpose was precisely to rescue the captives even if they had to become hostages themselves.
