August 6

Octavian (1060–1132)

Bishop

He was born in Quingey, France and died in Savona, Italy.

Biography

He was the son of Count William II; One of his brothers was pope under the name of Calixto II and another was archbishop of Becançon. Octavian always wanted to be a monk, but he could not be because his father was against it and sent him to study law in Bologna, Italy. After the death of his father, he managed to fulfill his ambition and entered the Abbey of Saint Peter, in Pavia, Italy. He lived forty-two more years dedicated to prayer and the study of the Word of God. With his talent and his family relationships, Octavian could have reached higher, but he never accepted any honor, because he wanted to imitate the humility of our Lord in everything. Only at the end of his life did he have to accept a bishopric, out of obedience, since there was no one who could occupy it.

Practical advice

With the desire to sanctify everyday life, exercise authority as a service and not as a privilege with external order and internal recollection.
