Olga (+956)

Martyr

She is the first Christian in Russia.

Biography

In the year 913 she had married Prince Igor, Grand Duke of kyiv. When he was assassinated in 945, Olga exercised the regency during the minority of her son Svistolav. In the year 957 he received baptism in Constantinople. At his request, Otto the Great, Emperor of Germany, sent missionaries to convert his subjects, who were still performing human sacrifices. But they were all murdered, except the cook San Alberto. It was Saint Vladimir, son of Svistolav, who imposed Christianity as the state religion in Russia in the year 987.

Practical advice

When you begin your work, ask the Holy Spirit for boldness and delicacy to bring souls closer to God and begin again with humility if it does not go well.
