Olinto Marella, priest (1882–1969)
Priest
Italian priest and apostle of the marginalized, Olinto Marella dedicated his life to poor young people, orphans and the homeless.
Biography
A fellow student of Saint John XXIII, he was ordained in 1904 and early promoted educational works inspired by the social doctrine of the Church. A painful suspension from the ministry forced him to work as a teacher for years, proof that he lived without rebellion. Rehabilitated, he dedicated himself to rescuing street boys in Bologna and founded the City of Boys. He begged for alms in the streets with humility, becoming "Father Marella" for everyone.
