Biography

She received the veil of the Consecrated Virgin from her brother Crodegango, bishop of Sées when she entered the abbey of Almenèches, in France. She was so fervent and so good that her companions soon made her abbess. A nice miracle is told that occurred through his intercession: a peasant who had borrowed the donkey from the convent, refused to return it, claiming that he had bought it. Opportuna began to pray. The next morning, the thief saw his best meadow covered with a carpet of salt that would make it barren for a long time. This prodigy made him reconsider and he not only returned the donkey bridled and with new harnesses to the nuns, but also gave them the aforementioned meadow that has since been called “the salt meadow.”
