He was king of Northumbria, England.
Biography
He asked Saint Aidan to evangelize his kingdom and built him and his monks a monastery on the island of Lindisfar. The king's interest was so great that while the missionaries learned the language of the country, he served as their interpreter. He was an exemplary king. He died in the course of a war with his pagan neighbor Penda, king of Mercia.
