Pope from 1963 to 1978, Paul VI led the Church through most of the Second Vatican Council and guided its first implementation.
Biography
Giovanni Battista Montini had served for years in the Secretariat of State and as Archbishop of Milan, attentive to the dialogue between faith, culture and the working world. As pontiff he promoted evangelization, justice and peace, made historic apostolic journeys and sought Christian unity. He published decisive documents such as Ecclesiam suam, Populorum progressio, Humanae vitae and Evangelii nuntiandi, and lived his ministry with a deep awareness of service.
