Panfilo
Priest
Born in Beirut around the year 240 and died in Caesarea (Palestine) on February 13, 309.
Biography
After studying in Alexandria, he was ordained a priest. He preached and taught in a school founded by Origen where he wrote his irreplaceable "Ecclesiastical History." He considerably enriched the library of that institution, which reached thirty thousand volumes. He was arrested and tortured for testifying to his faith. He spent two years in prison and took the opportunity to write an "Apology for Origins" there. It was Pánfilo's last work; shortly after he was executed. Eusebius recounted his martyrdom; He had so much admiration and gratitude towards Pamphilus that he called himself Eusebius of Pamphilus.
