Paulinus of Aquileia (726–802)
Bishop
Paulinus was a shepherd and tended flocks at the foot of the Alps.
Biography
As a result of his study, he became very cultured and his fame reached the court of Charlemagne where he amazed everyone with his science, his piety and his kind treatment. Although he would have preferred to remain at court, when he was appointed bishop of Aquileia, a border land of barbarians, he obeyed and entered into the heat of pastoral activity, as when he was a child, but now with men, many of whom were still pagans, and converted a multitude of them.
