Biography
Spanish priest and architect, Pedro Asúa Mendía put his professional and pastoral abilities at the service of the Church and the poor. Before entering the seminary he practiced architecture and, already ordained in 1924, he continued designing churches and the Vitoria seminary, in addition to preaching, catechizing and caring for the marginalized. During the religious persecution of 1936 he did not abandon his ministry, although he knew the danger. He was arrested, tortured and shot on August 29. Before being shot, he blessed his executioners and told them that he forgave them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
