Pedro Casani, priest (1572–1647)
Priest
Italian Piarist and close collaborator of Saint Joseph of Calasanz, Pedro Casani dedicated his life to the Christian education of poor children.
Biography
He had entered the Congregation of the Mother of God of Saint John Leonardi, but when it separated from the Pious Schools he chose to remain with Calasanz and embrace his poverty. He was one of the first priests of the new order, trainer, superior and teacher of prayer. He defended free schools and patiently endured misunderstandings, accusations and the crisis that almost destroyed the institute. He died trusting that the educational work would survive through fidelity to God.
