Biography
Bishop Pedro Claverie heads nineteen religious men and women murdered during the Algerian civil war. They belonged to various congregations and served as teachers, doctors, nurses, contemplatives, and close friends of the Muslim people. Although they knew the danger, they decided to remain with the communities with which they had shared life, without seeking death or abandoning those who suffered. Among them were the seven Trappist monks of Tibhirine. His martyrdom testifies to brotherhood, dialogue and love that does not flee from fear.
