Peter of Orseolo (928–987)
Monk
He became Doge of Venice, a position in which he displayed enormous administrative talent by restoring public peace, the temple of San Marco and the neighborhoods burned after the internal wars.
Biography
One night he disappeared without leaving a trace, and went to France where he entered the abbey of Roussillon and became a monk under a false name. There he spent the rest of his days dedicated to atonement and contemplation.
