Peter Julian Eymard (1811–1868)

Marist priest missionary founder

A contemporary and friend of the Curé of Ars, he was a rural priest at the beginning of his ministry, but it seemed that he could not find his right place, because after a time he entered with the Marists in Lyon, with the hope of becoming a missionary in distant lands.

Biography

However, the Lord had other plans for him, so he never left the country. In 1856 he founded a Eucharistic order, the Institute of Priests of the Blessed Sacrament, which spread the practice of perpetual adoration. Instead of external activity converting infidels, Saint Peter Julian sought the very core of faith: the real presence of Jesus Christ in the sacramental species. It can be said about him that after a long search, he chose the best part.
