Rafael Arnáiz Barón (1911–1938)
Monk
A young Spaniard, architecture student, artist and athlete, Rafael Arnáiz discovered in the Trappe of San Isidro de Dueñas his call to a life entirely for God.
Biography
Severe diabetes forced him to leave the monastery several times and prevented him from professing like the other monks. He returned whenever his health allowed, accepting to live as an Oblate and depend on constant care. In the midst of illness and civil war, a simple, joyful, Christ-centered spirituality matured. He died at the age of twenty-six.
Practical advice
Adapt a good goal today to your real limits instead of abandoning it because you can no longer achieve it in the ideal way.
