Raphael Chyliński, priest (1694–1741)
Franciscan priest
Polish conventual Franciscan, Rafael Chyliński was a priest of intense prayer and extraordinary closeness to the poor and sick.
Biography
He had served briefly as a military officer before entering religious life and receiving ordination in 1717. In various convents he cared for those who arrived without resources, even giving them their food and their cloak. During the Krakow epidemic of 1736 he visited the infected, cared for them personally and prepared them to die a Christian death, without protecting himself. His simple charity left a lasting memory among the people.
