Rafaela María Porras (1850–1925)
Religious
Born near Córdoba, she founded in that city, together with her sister María del Pilar, the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart, aimed at the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the education of humble children.
Biography
The slaves expanded rapidly and Rafaela governed them, assisted by María del Pilar as Treasurer. In 1893, María del Pilar, whom her sister reproached for her activism, became convinced that Rafaela did not meet the necessary conditions to fulfill her government functions. Consequently, he carried out an internal campaign against her and achieved her dismissal. María del Pilar then held her position for ten years. During that time and twenty-two more years, Rafaela lived apart, forgotten and despised, but happy to be able to dedicate herself fully to prayer and good works. Upon her death, having discovered what had happened and her heroic virtues, the Roman authorities opened her beatification process without delay, and Pius XII elevated her to the altars in 1952.
Practical advice
Without seeking recognition, thank the Virgin for a favor received and share it simply and end with a brief thanksgiving.
