Rainier
Hermit
(+1160) He was born in Pisa, Italy and ended his days in that same city.
Biography
He was a renowned troubadour who liked to sing in castles accompanied by the viola, and he led a disorderly life. Thanks to a hermit who prayed intensely for him, Rainier received the grace of conversion. For a time he became a merchant to earn money and be able to visit the Holy Places. He enlisted as a galley slave on the ship that would take him to the Holy Land and was so cheerful that his companions found the journey short. Returning to Pisa, Rainier became a canon regular and settled in the monastery of San Guido, where throughout his life he continued to spread joy and good advice to the people of the city. His relics are in the cathedral of Pisa.
