July 7
Raúl Milner and Rogelio Dickenson (+1591)
Priests
They died for their faith in Winchester, England on July 7, 1591 during what has come to be called the “English Inquisition.” To make the barely one hundred thousand Catholics who remained in England disappear, Queen Elizabeth forbade them from leaving their cities, attending a “Roman” mass, etc.
Biography
As for priests, they were exposed to the death penalty just for being priests. Raúl Milner, an illiterate farmer, father of eight children, and Rogelio Dickensen, a secular priest, were arrested. If they consented to go to pray in an Anglican church, they would be considered as having abjured popery and would be saved, but they refused and both were hanged together.
Practical advice
As you begin your work, pray for a priest who goes through a difficulty with peace, perseverance and good humor.
