April 13
Rolando Rivi, seminarian and martyr (1931–1945)
martyr seminarian
A fourteen-year-old Italian seminarian, Rolando Rivi returned to his town when the war forced the seminary to close.
Biography
He continued to wear the cassock because he considered it a sign of his belonging to Jesus, he helped in the parish and taught other children. In April 1945 he was kidnapped by communist partisans, tortured for several days and murdered in a forest out of hatred for the faith. His martyrdom does not exalt political divisions: it reveals the pure fidelity of a teenager who refused to hide his vocation.
