Rosalia (1140–1170)

Biography

At the age of fourteen, being a beautiful young woman, she decided by divine inspiration to retire, secretly from her family, to a cave at the top of Mount Pellegrino. There she spent the last sixteen years of her life, according to legend, fed by angels who brought her the Eucharist. She is the patron saint of the city of Palermo where the miraculous discovery of her relics is celebrated with great festivities five centuries after her death.
