Biography
The Salvadoran Jesuit Rutilio Grande and the laymen Manuel Solórzano and Nelson Rutilio Lemus were murdered for their evangelical service to peasant communities. Father Rutilio promoted pastoral teams, Christian communities and a faith capable of recognizing the dignity of the poor without resorting to violence. On March 12, 1977, when they were going to celebrate the Eucharist, the three were ambushed and shot. His martyrdom prompted Saint Óscar Romero to denounce injustice and repression more clearly.
