November 22
Salvador Lilli and seven fellow martyrs (+1895)
Martyrs
Franciscan missionary and seven Armenian laymen, Salvador Lilli and his companions preferred to die rather than renounce Christ.
Biography
In modern-day Türkiye, Father Salvador founded villages, promoted work and education, and served Catholics, Orthodox, and Muslims alike. During a cholera epidemic he personally cared for the sick. When violence against Armenians increased, he refused to go to safety because he did not want to abandon his people. Captured by Ottoman soldiers, the eight refused to apostatize and were killed with spears on November 22, 1895.
Practical advice
Do not abandon a person entrusted to you today when a difficulty or reasonable risk appears.
