Salvador Valera Parra (1816–1889)

Spanish priest and parish priest of Huércal-Overa, Salvador Valera Parra accompanied his people during epidemics, earthquakes and fires.
Biography
He did not limit himself to administering sacraments: he organized relief, gathered resources and collaborated with Saint Teresa Jornet in the opening of a home for abandoned elderly people. His intense Eucharistic prayer and his Marian devotion sustained a charity available at any time. He was called “Cura Valera” and remembered as a living gospel for looking at and loving everyone with the heart of Christ.
