Thérèse of the Child Jesus (of Lisieux) (1873–1897)
Carmelite nun and Doctor of the Church
Thérèse entered the Carmel of Lisieux at a young age and lived a hidden life of prayer, community duties, sacrifice, and love.
Biography
She discovered a “little way” of spiritual childhood: trusting completely in the Father’s mercy and doing the smallest actions with great love. Though she never left the cloister, her prayer embraced missionaries and the whole Church, which later named her patroness of the missions. Her Story of a Soul has led countless readers toward confidence, simplicity, and holiness in ordinary things. She died of tuberculosis at twenty-four and was declared a Doctor of the Church.
Practical advice
In quiet recollection, correct charitably a fault that should not be ignored, without seeking applause or recognition.
