August 22
Siegfried (+690)
Abbot
He was elected prior by Saint Benedict when he was abbot of Wearmouth, Durham, England.
Biography
They both fell ill at the same time and had to stay in bed for several months. When he was coming to the end of his days, Bede writes that “the pious Siegfried wanted to say his last farewell to his benefactor.” His nurse carried him in his arms to the old abbot's cell, helped him hug him, and returned him to the infirmary. They both died shortly after.
