Theodora Guérin (1798–1856)

French religious and missionary in the United States, Teodora Guérin founded the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
Biography
After caring for her widowed mother for years, she entered religious life and was sent with five companions to the woods of Indiana. There she opened schools, an orphanage and a pharmacy, trained teachers and sustained the community in the face of disease, fires, poverty and conflict. His trust in Providence was not passivity, but courage to begin lasting works with scarce resources.
