January 11
Theodosius the Cenobite (423–529)
confessor of faith
He was a Cappadocian by birth.
Biography
He received his nickname for having propagated cenobitic life with great fervor (from the Greek koinos, common). After his stay in the Katisma monastery, halfway between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, he founded an immense monastery in the latter town. In addition to a gigantic church in which the liturgy was celebrated in Greek, it had two oratories to pray in Armenian and Georgian. Even heretics received lenient treatment there. Theodosius died at the age of one hundred and five, overwhelmed by illnesses but without “ever begging God to deliver him from them.”
Practical advice
As soon as you have the opportunity, give up a pleasure to materially help another person like someone who works and prays under the loving gaze of God.
