Theophilus of Antioch (2nd century)
Bishop
He was bishop of Antioch under Marcus Aurelius.
Biography
He was a converted pagan, of Greek training and vast culture. Of the numerous works he composed, only his Autolycus has survived, addressed to a pagan who needed to be instructed, to remove, among other things, the idea that Christians ate child flesh. In the midst of persecution, Theophilus dares to call atheist writers poor and blind volunteers, and tells them: "Begin by curing the eyes of your soul by changing your behavior and then you will see invisible things more clearly. Your stupidity, like mine in other times, will then diminish and God will give you the same grace that he granted me: that of revealing himself to you."
Practical advice
Trusting in God's grace, accept a setback without complaining and end with a brief thanksgiving.
