Thomas Becket, bishop and martyr

He was chancellor of England, when King Henry II Plantagenet chose him as Bishop of Canterbury.
Biography
In that position he vigorously defended the rights of the Church, whom the king wanted to dominate. In retaliation, he was banished to France, and when he returned to Canterbury, the king's loyalists murdered him in his cathedral (1118-1170).
