Thomas of Cori (1655–1729)
Franciscan priest
Italian Franciscan, preacher and teacher of contemplative life, Thomas of Cori sought to live radically the Rule of Saint Francis.
Biography
Orphaned at a young age, he worked to support and ensure the future of his sisters before entering the Order. Already a priest, he promoted Franciscan "retreats", communities where prayer, poverty and fraternity renewed apostolic zeal. He spent much of his life in Bellegra, dedicated to preaching, spiritual direction and worship. His austerity was always accompanied by joy and fraternal charity.
Practical advice
Set aside a brief time of true retreat today: turn off the phone, read the Gospel and remain silent before God.
