April 9
Vadim (†376)
Monk
He lived in Bethlapat, Persia, with seven other monks.
Biography
They were persecuted and taken to prison on the orders of King Chahpurhr II. There they found Nersan, prince of Aria, also a Christian, who was imprisoned for having refused to worship the sun. This man had endured everything, but seeing the tortures inflicted on Vadim, he broke down and ended up preferring the favors of a mortal prince to those of God, and decided to please the king. He made it a condition for him to kill Vadim, to which Nersan consented. When they put the sword in his hand, he began to tremble so much that he could not use it to cut off the head of his victim. Then he began to hit him left and right, destroying his entire body. Vadim's disciples were freed upon the death of King Shapur, but Nersan was executed after his crime.
Practical advice
When you begin your work, give up unnecessary distraction for a few hours without leaving for tomorrow the good that you can do today.
