Valentine
Martyr
Valentine is honored by the Church as a martyr who bore witness to Christ in Rome.
Biography
The historical details of his life are limited, and ancient traditions sometimes refer to more than one martyr of this name. What remains at the center of his remembrance is not a romantic legend, but fidelity to the Gospel even at the cost of life. Christian love is more than sentiment: it seeks the good of the other, remains faithful in trial, and is strengthened by God’s grace.
Practical advice
In a moment of quiet recollection, pray for a priest facing a difficulty, with peace, perseverance, and good humor.
