Victor, martyr of Milan

Martyr

Also known as Victor the Moor, he was a soldier in the Roman army originally from Mauritania who suffered martyrdom in Milan around the year 303, during the persecutions of Emperor Maximian.

Biography

He stood out for his firm defense of the Christian faith. He was born in Mauritania (in North Africa) and was part of the imperial military guard.

Ordered to worship the pagan gods of the empire, he refused to obey and laid down his arms. He was imprisoned, endured harsh days of torture without eating or drinking, and was finally taken to the outskirts of Milan, where he was beheaded.

Saint Ambrose was one of the main disseminators of his history and devotion in Milan, remembering him along with his companions Félix and Nabor.

Tradition indicates that he is considered the protector and patron of prisoners and exiled people.
