Biography
He was a monk in Lérins, abbot of Saint Symphorien of Autun, and for thirty years, archbishop of Arles. Pope Saint Gregory the Great had him in such great esteem that he made him his vicar for all of Gaul. As such, it was his responsibility to “assemble a council of twelve bishops from all places, where any dispute relating to discipline or faith was brought to light.”
