April 12
Zeno of Verona (†380)
Bishop
He is known for the hundreds of sermons attributed to him.
Biography
He was bishop of Verona in 363 and, apparently, died in 380. The first of these dates coincides with the reestablishment of the pagan clergy and the prohibition of Christian proselytism by Julian the Apostate. The second, on the other hand, marks the beginning of Christianity as a State religion with the empire of Theodosius. Bishop Zeno lived in accordance with the apostolic spirit. He is represented with a fish in his hand in memory of the fact that, not wanting to be a burden to anyone, he himself went fishing in the Adige to provide himself with food.
