Eudoxia

Nun

He died in Heliopolis (Baalbek, Lebanon) in the 2nd century.

Biography

At the entrance to Heliopolis, at a friend's house, Germán the Monk stopped in surprise before the magnificent palace that was in front of them, and asked who lived there. "Eudoxia, the most beautiful courtesan of Heliopolis," his friend replied, "it is normal that she has become so rich, since her services are highly appreciated." When he had retired to his room, Germán opened the window and prepared to sing some verses from the Gospel. With a magnificent voice, he first sang about hell: "Unfortunate are those who laugh, for later they will cry." Then he remembered the parables of the prodigal son and the lost sheep. And at last it ended with the eternal happiness of the blessed. Eudoxia got up and went out to the balcony to listen; After returning to bed, he did not stop crying all night. The next morning, he went to his neighbor and asked to see the mysterious singer. Germán, who did not feel called to guide young women spiritually, promised to pray for her and directed her to the elderly bishop Theodotus who instructed her, conferred baptism on her and took charge of the direction of her soul. However, a lout furious at her conversion, a former client of Eudoxia, denounced her to the Roman governor. He, in turn, sent her to an honest judge, married to a charming woman who influenced Eudoxia to be acquitted. But the bot returned to the fray and this time she was brought before a grumpy magistrate whose wife, ugly and bad-tempered, attended the trial, and Eudoxia was decapitated. Little known in the Roman Church, this martyr is highly venerated in the Eastern Churches.
