March 12

Fine

Secular

She died in Geminiano (Tuscany, Italy) on March 12, 1253.

Biography

She spent most of her life lying on a table, in imitation of Jesus Christ who died on the cross. When she was young, a strange illness left her paralyzed, with the exception of her tongue, and completely covered with ulcers that were never healed. Her mother took care of her as long as she lived. Then the neighbors, reluctantly, brought him food. Fina received everyone with joy and gratitude, except when she was in ecstasy. She benevolently welcomed the flies and mosquitoes that gathered on the sores on her face, and which she could not scare away with her immobile hands. Fina always considered herself the happiest of creatures. One morning they found her dead, with her face smiling and her body covered by a blanket of violets. Since then, the Tuscans call these flowers finas in homage to their saint.
