Founder of the Poor Sisters of Saint Francis, Francisca Schervier was known in Aachen as a mother of the poor.
Biography
Born into a wealthy family and orphaned by her mother at the age of thirteen, she soon began teaching catechism and helping families in need. In 1845 she gathered five companions; An epidemic of cholera and smallpox immediately gave them the opportunity to care for abandoned patients. He organized the new community according to Franciscan poverty and charity. Her sisters also cared for war wounded, young people in difficulty, and communities in the United States, while she maintained a simple and close life.
