Hildegard of Bingen, doctor of the Church (1098–1179)

Religious

This saint is one of the greatest female figures in the West, and one can appreciate in her the reality of the charismas of the Holy Spirit: contemplation and prophetic annunciation.

Biography

Despite having a timid and sickly nature, he accepted the mission given to him by God and exhorted the Pope, emperors, kings and clerics to convert and reject the bad customs that had appeared especially in religious spheres. He wrote several works on spirituality and theology, but he also had a great knowledge of medicinal plants and herbs and wrote two books on their nature and use. Every day, needy people and seriously ill people arrived at the doors of the convent so that Hildegard could advise them or cure them with her medicines and prayers. The people saw as a special gift of love from God the personal advice and help provided by the hands of this woman, who also suffered multiple pains in her own body.

Practical advice

Whenever you have the opportunity, teach a truth of faith with clarity and affection without seeking applause or recognition.
