August 4
John Mary Vianney (1786–1859)
Priest
John Mary Vianney, the Curé of Ars, served a small French village with extraordinary pastoral charity.
Biography
He lived simply, prayed intensely, preached clearly, cared for the poor, and spent countless hours hearing confessions. People came from far away to seek his counsel and the mercy of God in the sacrament of Reconciliation. He faced discouragement and spiritual trials, yet persevered in love for Christ and his parishioners. The Church honors him as patron of parish priests.
Practical advice
Today, pray three Hail Marys for purity of heart, as one who works and prays beneath God’s loving gaze.
